Why Insurance Usually Doesn’t Cover Christian Life Coaching
Health insurance typically does not cover life coaching (including Christian versions). Here’s why:
- It’s Not Medical Treatment Insurance pays for diagnosed health conditions (like anxiety or depression) that need therapy. Life coaching focuses on personal growth, goals, and self-improvement for people who are generally healthy — not treating disorders.
- Coaching Isn’t Therapy Therapists are licensed healthcare providers who use medical codes to bill insurance. Life coaches aren’t regulated the same way and don’t diagnose or treat mental health issues. The spiritual/biblical focus makes it a faith-based self-development service.
- No Standard Coverage Codes Most plans don’t reimburse for coaching, wellness coaching, or similar services. (Rare exceptions might apply if a licensed therapist blends coaching into covered therapy, but pure coaching is out-of-pocket.)
You pay directly for sessions — similar to a gym membership, course, or personal training. This gives flexibility in our work together. If you need help with mental health concerns, check insurance-covered options like licensed Christian counseling or therapy instead.
